The scope of this substantial project includes construction of a modern passenger terminal spread over 5,700 m2 with a capacity of 500,000 passengers per year, a 37m high air traffic control tower and an air cargo terminal equipped to handle 25,000 metric tons of cargo per annum.

The 418,000 m² retail hub to be built in the heart of Palm Jumeirah in Dubai will comprise 5 retail levels with more than 100,000 m² of shop space, three basement parking levels with 4,000 spaces, 200 shops, 2 anchor department stores, a nine-screen cinema, medical center and fitness complex. The project is expected to be completed in 2016.

The scope of the 31-month contract includes building three elevated stations (Barwa Village, Al Wakrah and Qatar Economic Zone) and a 6.97-kilometre section plus tunneling the road at the entrance to Al Wakrah.

Doha Metro’s four lines, which are due for completion in 2019, will connect major sites in the city, including the Education City, West Bay, Lusail, Hamad Bin Khalifa International Airport and the QNCC.

The overall budget for the metro is over $26bn, making it one of the world’s largest public infrastructure projects. Design work is to begin immediately, with construction scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2014 for opening in 2018.

The BACS consortium will be responsible for the design, construction, rolling stock, signaling, electrification and integration of lines 1 and 2, which will be part of the six-line metro system that will form the backbone of the city’s public transportation network. Line 1, which has a total length of 38 km and includes 26 stations, will run north to south across Riyadh from Olaya to Batha Corridor while Line 2, which stretches 25.3 km and includes 16 stations, will run east to west along King Abdullah Road.

CCS client Obayashi Corporation, in Joint Venture with another CCS client, HBK Contracting Company (Qatar), has been awarded the QR2.5bn ($686m) Phase 3 construction contract of the “Msheireb Downtown Doha Project” in Qatar.

The project’s owner, Msheireb Properties, a subsidiary of Qatar Foundation, is undertaking the redevelopment of the historical commercial centre of Doha through 4 construction phases. Phase 3, which marks a key milestone in this development, will comprise two office buildings, 350 residential units spread across 11 buildings, four communal swimming pools in addition to a mosque, retail, hotel, hospitality and community facilities. The 20,000m2 retail offering will comprise 84 units, a 187-key hotel will also be built on an area of 30,500m2.

JSE-listed construction firm Group Five (JSE:GRF) has secured a nuclear construction contract in partnership with Lesedi Nuclear Services that positions it well for future nuclear projects and adds impetus to its strategy of expanding and diversifying its energy business.

The Koeberg contract is the first nuclear contract Group Five has won. While the value of the project is not disclosed it involves the design, manufacture and replacement of the 1 800 m³ Refuelling Water Storage Tanks at Eskom’s Koeberg Nuclear Power Station.
