Candy

We have tested Candy and it works well in both the 32- and 64-bit versions. We expect this to be our preferred operating system by year end.

The Windows 10 Home version is not generally encouraged, since the Home versions of Windows do not support full networking capability.

BuildSmart

BuildSmart requires Internet Explorer as its host, and this is supplied with Windows 10. There should be no compatibility problems.

We have recently launched a new module into the Candy suite of project control applications, at no additional cost to Candy users.

Candy QTO is an electronic take-off application which measures off 2D and 3D drawings and seamlessly integrates the quantities into Candy. This take-off system can be used to prepare a Bill of Quantities for a new job, or progress quantities for interim and final measurements in a current project.

QTO is simple, accurate and with the use of templates will save time and money in measurement for, Bill, Final, Actual and Claimed quantities, and is aimed to assist contractors, professional quantity surveyors and project managers.

The measurements are fully auditable by way of reports and quantities can be updated to accommodate revised drawings.

At CCS, we are continually enhancing our construction software and with QTO will be able to integrate with BIM modelling in the future.

Microsoft has announced that they will no longer support Windows XP at all from April 2014 – even the Service Pack 3 version.

Candy is still XP compatible, with certain exceptions, but obviously we will continue to write software for the Windows Vista, 7 and 8 operating systems. Candy also looks better on these later platforms. So if you are given the option to upgrade your XP system, go for Windows 7.

A new version of the Subcontract Manager is now on its own application tab at the top of the screen, rather than being an option in Valuations. It contains revised and more focused subcontract management functions.

The Costs and Allowables module has also been moved to its own tab. This simplifies the work done at the Valuations stage by moving the Costs and Allowables and Financial Forecasting into their workspace. This means that these modules are distinguished not just by the documents they use, but by the type of work that is being done with them. This also means that we can expand on these aspects without burdening Valuations.

Version 2.00h52 onwards
